TTRPG FAQ

What is a TTRPG?

A TTRPG (tabletop role playing game) is a collaborative game where all players develop their own characters to play through a fantasy world along with your fellow players. In it, you will be led by a Game Master to explore the world through a series of dice-based challenges and interactions that help move the story along!

Who will be part of each group?

Cyle will be our Game Master (GM), and will be responsible for running the game and ensuring that everyone has a good time! He is a friend of Lexi’s and her brother-in-law’s best friend who we’ve known for years. He’s a great guy, loves to be creative in this TTRPG space, and is a middle school teacher. We’ve been talking to him about creating a custom-made TTRPG for a while, and finally made it happen!

Nicole, Lexi and Hayden will not participate as fellow players… but perhaps they’ll appear in other ways!

How many members per group?

4 players per group to start with a maximum of 6

What is the time commitment?

We are only asking players to be available for 4-5 hours for this first one-time session. You will be an active participant throughout the whole session, so while quick breaks are okay, your presence will be needed for the full duration.

Please put what your availability is in the application and anticipate playing for 4-5 hours.

After applications close, what is the timeline for choosing groups, starting gameplay, running games)

This is dependent upon the number of applicants! We hope to start the game ASAP while still ensuring it’s the best game experience possible for each group.

Earliest group may begin in mid-June. Since there will be multiple groups, you may not play until later in the summer. This is all one big experiment, so please be flexible with us as we figure out the extended schedule logistics!

Is there going to be a way for us to watch (for those who can’t commit the time to participate)

They will not be recorded for playback and TBD on whether some play sessions will be available to tune into live.

We would need the consent of all players in order to allow others to watch.

Should we still apply, even if we are unsure about the time commitment/our schedules?

Go ahead and apply with what you believe you’ll be able to commit to. If you are selected and can’t make your assigned group session schedule, let us know and we can remove you (no worries). However, we cannot guarantee you’ll be able to join a different group for a 4-5 hour time slot that does work for your schedule.

I forgot/made an error on my google form/forgot to include friends – should I resubmit the form?

You have the ability to edit your application, so please do that instead of resubmit.

How will this game be hosted? Do we need to get any kind of service to prepare (Discord/Youtube/ Streamyard/etc.)?

You should be good to go as long as your computer has a camera and a mic. It will likely be held on Zoom or Discord!

Is this a secret?

No! However, we are not promoting this to anyone outside of the Crown’s Council at this time.

For people who haven't played a TTRPG before, what essentials do they need? (i.e. making player beforehand/ do they need dice set?)

Once we have our players selected, our GM will give them the resources they need to make their character leading up to the play session. No dice needed (but if you have a dice set, you’re welcome to use it)!

Here is a free resource that simulates all the dice you’ll need for the game!

Any recommendations for How-To videos to familiarize themselves with game play?

There are countless videos online explaining the basics of how TTRPGs work! Feel free to watch a couple “TTRPG for Beginners” videos. We will provide more information about the basics in the lead-up, but we also assure you our GM will give you all the information you need throughout the game to play. You will learn as you go!

Will you have to be on camera or have to talk?

Yes – you will be actively role playing with your team, after all! In order to best role play and ensure a fun, collaborative story, you will need to be on camera and talk.
